• 10:15～11:00

  Various techniques for timberwork and processing of joints and seems in tategu (joinery)

  Exhibitoors

  • Tokyo Tategu Kyodo Kumiai

  Techniques of kumite used in tategu (joinery) and processing of handles and holes are demonstrated. A number of traditional techniques from sumidashi (marking) to processing, assembly and finishing are shown. How great master craftsmen are is shown, using hand tools (plane, chisel and saw).

  Ice sculpture/Ice statue and flower openwork

  Ice sculpture is a technique to make ice statues. A small statue may be used as dinnerware, and a large one is usually placed for decorating a venue of a party with western cuisine. On the stage, the 2016 World Champion Hideo Kase will showcase finishing of the ice statue and openwork of flowers filled with pigments by ditching an ice pillar with a drill.

  Demonstration of assembling "mini tea room" and koshibari (papering the lower part of wall)

  Assembly of "mini tea room" of 3.3 square meters, which is designed to be able to be assembled relatively easily and koshibari (papering the lower part of wall) are demonstrated. “Hanging Scroll” and “Furosaki Byobu (folding screen)” are arranged, and the commentaries about hyogu (decoration using paper and cloth) for general tea rooms are made.

  Stage back replacement demonstration

  Digitally printed wallpaper is put on the back of stage. Newly developed wallpaper is also introduced. For details, look forward to watching a live performance on the stage. Along with a fun talk of craftsperson for interior, please see skills to finish the interior.
