Miyagi pref.

We make wind bell made from only iron sand in Japan produced by the fonder order-taking Date clan for several hundred years. The technique is a unique and secret art handed down from father to son. You can choose the wind bell and tanzaku of your favorite tone and assemble, and enjoy your own customization.

  • You can make your own customized wind bell by selecting and assembling a wind bell with your favorite sound, a string, and a strip.

Demonstration

We would like you to see and know gold-lacquer techniques, one of the world's traditional craft techniques, through a demonstration by a skilled craftsman in making gold-lacquer fro 49 years, and deliver the magnificence to the world.

  • You can experience Makie, in which gold leaf and colored power is scattered over a synthetic lacquered round tray.

Demonstration

  • We demonstrate Makie using gold leaf and color powder technique. You should observe a brush stroke to draw Makie without a pattern and a draft, and how to scatter gold leaf and color powder on drawn patterns.

Tochigi pref.

The traditional craft of Sano City, Tochigi Prefecture, having a history of about 1000 years is "Tenmyoimono". The tea ceremony kettle used by Sen no Rikyu is a masterpiece that Sano City is proud of. During the period, there are also performance of craftsmen, Beigoma experiences, displays of vessels and tea kettles, and selling wind chimes and smudges.

  • You can experience making of an original casting tray, decoration of an original beigoma (Japanese spinning top) with rhinestone, and playing with Tenmyo casting beigoma.

Demonstration

  • By using traditional technique of Tenmyo casters, patterns of an iron kettle casting mold are made, and beigoma is processed and colored.

Exhibition

  • Vessels which can be used in everyday life with Tenmyo casting techniques incorporated into a modern life style are exhibited. Students of Sano Nihon University College also introduce recipes inspired by the vessels.
    Yusoku Tatami used by shrines and temples and Creative Tatami made by first-class specialists are exhibited.

  • We sell Tenmyo castings such as wind chimes reminiscent of summer, mosquito smudges, and Genghis Khan pots.

Saitama pref.

We will demonstrate production of hand-sewn rimless tatami and rimmed tatami with plate, and displays works finished with skills of master craftsmen. You can also purchase various kinds of craft tatami at a reasonable price.
*The production of rimless tatami will be demonstrated on August 9, and rimmed tatami with plate on August 8.

  • You can experience making of a tatami-coaster and a tatami mat.

Demonstration

  • How to make “Rimless Tatami" and “Rimmed Tatami with Plate” is demonstrated. “Rimless Tatami" is made by folding Ryukyu Omote to match the size of a tatami mat, and sewing up while adjusting thickness. “Rimmed Tatami with Plate” is made by inserting a plate of hinoki cypress to prevent a frame from being rounded off, and sewing tatami straw and rims.

After 400 years from the beginning, 'Takaoka ware' is a new effort to combine traditional crafts with craft designs using outstanding techniques for modern manufacturing. Aichi pref.

Kumikozaiku is the technique of craftsman decorating fittings (Shoji, fusuma, etc.). In the booth, large works that won the prime minister Prize at the 49th National Fittings Exhibition are on display. We will perform demonstration by craftsmen of Zengiren Meister and small accessories.

Sasayama-shi, Hyogo pref.

Located in the middle east of Hyogo Prefecture, Tamba Ware is one of the six oldest kilns in Japan. Its origin is said to be from the end of the Heian period to the beginning of the Kamakura period, and the traditional techniques for 800 years have been handed down to about 60 kilns today.

This is Sakusyugasuri, which has been woven around Tsuyama City, Okayama Prefecture . It is a beautiful kasuri pattern woven with navy blue and white cotton threads, and conveys Japanese handwork today. Experience the gentle warmth of hand-woven and a series of steps from cotton to the fabric.

Akama inkstone' is becoming a phantom ink stone because of the decrease in production number. You can see the works from the practical inkstone of the traditional style to crafted inkstone and the Award-Winning Work. The creators will explain carefully, such as the history of the inkstone, how to make it, how to use and care.

Oita pref.

Since 350 years ago, it has been produced in Bungo and is indispensable rug for many common people's lives "Shichitoiomote". Today, only about thousand and several hundred pieces are produced annually, and it is difficult to obtain it, and it is said that it is even a phantom tatami mat. It would be happy for us if many people could reexamine the forgotten Shichitoi culture again and know the good points.
